Now that the house is becoming emptier as 3 had left home to study in college..and my other two boys r busy with his own activities and school work, i tend to read more and write more often to fill up my time...
I am always looking forward to go for a long vacation with my family but time has not permitted us to do so at the moment..therefore, being at home and enjoy my free time around is the best thing to do right now....
Wow, it was quite a hectic day today..especially with a number of cases fixed for trials and the confusion over the relocation of the interpreters involved in High Court 1 and the closing of High Court 2....2 of the High Court 2 interpreters have been relocated to the Sessions Courts and left with one senior chinese interpreter (Jurubahasa Tertinggi) whom Dato' (my boss) would definitely take her to join our Courts...but there was quite a confusion over this matter esp on the day i was on leave.....alahai...
At the first instinct, i was chosen to look after cases before our Senior Registrar and Senior Assistant Registrar which i think is really a blessing because i won't be tight up with open court cases but things had changed today....
I had no problems of handling anybody...i can do anything to assist the Courts or the registrars or handling both of them at the same time but things became quite complicated...
Ha...ha..ha..what a day...but very relieved coz 2 cases had been withdrawn today which includes 1 full trial case...hoping that another case which was adjourned to the 18th will settle too....
Now that we r left with only one High Court ..that means we r going 2 handle all criminal & civil appeals, criminal cases and all the civil matters, we r going to have a hell of a time...but hopefully, all of us can work in a team and have the ability in performing our responsibilities daily at ease and with full of fun...as we had before....
Mistakes are common but we'll try to correct it from time to time...we must be more alert with our daily chores as not to repeat more mistakes in the future.....
Our responsibilities as a Court interpreter in not an easy task nowadays..we've got to handle counsels, be more persuasive to them , police officials, prosecutors, and public at any time of the day....we need to be more knowledgable in some points of law and we must know how to advise them in certain aspects and not to mislead them in any ways or another...
Working in High Courts is not a big deal...it is different from working in the Lower Courts...We r serving the Judge not a magistrate...Our Judge is very competent and well-versed in law...very meticulous at times...so, we must be well-equipped with all the knowledge as to understand each case flow....if not how to handle all the lawyers with different types of attitudes who attend the courts.....
I had been in the Courts for 30 solid years and I think working in the High Courts is more challengable than being in the Lower Courts. I am considered very lucky coz i had so much of experiences in the Magistrates and Sessions Courts and it's time for me to be here in the High Courts...
I learnt a lot of Courts Procedures and the Criminal law was at the finger tips while I was in the Lower Courts but now I am learning new things such as Bancruptcy, Divorce, winding-up, probate and many other applications made by the High Courts Rules....
I simply love my job now and forever..but to all the new interpreters out there, if you have got the chance to move on, you better do, coz if you stay being an interpreter , you will live in regrets....coz you won't gain anything but as for me, i had served for many years and i had worked with many nice bosses and staffs around and working was full of fun..i had never thought of going anywhere else as my time is nearly over....but i really had an enjoyable time working though full of challenges from the first time i had this job...
When I first joined the service in 1981, the Courts proceedings was in English and we were really needed to interpret cases for Malay to English or vice versa but since 1988 or so, proceedings was then changed to full Malay proceedings...no more challenges for us...no more thrills..no more pleasure of interpreting cases although there were hard times those days....besides interpretations, we did a lot of translations...but it was full of fun esp with the circle of all my fellow interpreters who started with me at the old Jalan Duta Courts which was then a wooden building....from 1981 - 1988...those were the days which we just can't go back to that old memory lane...it was so memorable and full of best and bitter moments....those moments are now a history and looking forward to the new happenings ahead of us....
